Wrath by Ella James Book Review – the Dark MM Romance That’ll Shatter Your Soul

This is just a short book review for Wrath by Ella James from the Sinful Secrets collection.

Okay, I have to start off by saying that this book is not a fantasy romance but rather just a romance, which I rarely ever read, as evidenced by this entire book blog being dedicated specifically to the fantasy genre of books. After much consideration, I decided to go on ahead and write a review for Wrath anyway because I really just loved it so so much.

Wrath by Ella James tells the emotionally-charged story of two stepbrothers who fall for each other after one learns the other’s devastating secret. I don’t want to say anymore than that, but if you like angst and tension, this book is for you.

Book Review for Wrath by Ella James

I honestly didn’t expect this book to be this good. I was just looking for a quick, flirty romance to give me some butterflies, but what I unexpectedly found was a book so deep it tugged at my heartstrings and left me sobbing in tears at times.

That’s not to say that this book wasn’t fun or sexy or spicy. It was soooooo sexy. In fact, it bordered on being erotica at times—there were so many sex scenes. But they never got repetitive or boring. And—most importantly—they didn’t replace the plot.

I think it’s pretty rare to find a book that can contain this much exciting sex scenes while also containing fully-fleshed out characters and a well-developed plot. By the end of the book, I felt like I knew these characters intimately. They felt so real, not flat or 2-dimensional like so many characters tend to be in romance or erotica novels. These were great characters. And I love them so much. And I felt their struggles so much.

In some ways, this book also reminded me of the All for the Game series, so if you’re a fan of those books, I think you’ll definitely like this one. It dealt with a lot of the same type of dark themes and emotional hurdles.

This was my first time reading this author, and I’ll definitely be checking out more of their work.
